This series is made up of photos taken in Tokyo, Seoul, and Hong - Kong. Far frombeing documentary or ethnic, Matthieu Casimiri considers these photos a fragmented and subjective account of life in these large cities, particularly about man's place in them. Through his photos Matthieu wants to show the limits imposed on man, his conscious and unconscious emotions, reactions and postures. The modern urban life described here concentrates the paradoxes : areas dedicated to entertainment where people come to frenetically free themselves and where however everyone seems desperately sad, these isolated people hanging on their telephones, this rush, these static people in a city of constant movement. Not looking to condemn this way of life, he simply wishes to suggest the sometimes dramatic poetry present in these everyday scenes.
